Aleš Kovář

The portfolio of Znojmo winemakers is growing with one young guy from Tasovice - Aleš Kovář! We met at the first year of our Natural Wine Fest in Brno in 2020, where Aleš showed us his elegant full-fat wines from the year 2018. Since then, we have met regularly at all kinds of wine events until he finally landed here with us. He rents vineyards for a long time in the vicinity of Tasovice on a granite bedrock, which, in combination with 50-year-old vineyards, reflects the Znojmo terroir - especially the mineral profile of his wines. Currently, it focuses only on white varieties such as Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, Müller Thurgau or Riesling Vlasský. After picking, they all macerate briefly on the skins, ferment spontaneously and age for at least 1 year in oak barrels without the addition of sulphur. We would describe Aleš's style as elegant and purposeful with a change due to the year - the 18' was fuller, the current 19' nicely balanced, and perhaps the 21' still maturing in barrels stands out with its higher acidity. We mustn't forget his pét-nats, you really liked Živíjo 2020 from Riesling, now you can enjoy Happy Cat-Nat 2021 from Millerka and Neuburský, excellent stuff.
