Benoit Camus
On the south side of Beaujolais in the vicinity of the town of Ville-sur-Jarnioux, you can also find the positive energy of Benoit Camus farming his 4 hectares of vineyards. For us, one of the most interesting meetings during the Les Anonymes festival in Angers, where we went for the first time this year. He lives in an old caravan right in the vineyard, which he calls with exaggeration "Chateau Roulant", where his eponymous Gamay comes from. In addition to this variety, he also grows some Chardonnay. He has been cultivating his own vineyard since 2006, but he has been working in the vineyards since he was very young, so he is truly a winemaker and winegrower with all his spirit and heart. He works exclusively by hand and according to organic principles, he does not overcomplicate things in the cellar: spontaneous fermentation is followed by maturation on rough sludge in concrete tanks, he does not add sulfur or other oenological preparations to his wines. It is interesting that until recently Benoit did not sell wines under his own name, but his friend and famous winemaker Philippe Jambon took them from him in the form of "negociant" projects. Now we can enjoy his living wines with 100% own handwriting.
