Clos Bateau
Sylvie and Thierry are a young winemaking couple who in 2019 decided to leave a famous restaurant in Amsterdam and move to the village of Lantignié in the southwest of the Beaujolais region. There they acquired a small winery with an old vineyard (20 acres), which they approached in a biodynamic spirit right from the start, and Clos Bateau was born. They set themselves the goal of creating a kind of interconnected biodiverse ecosystem from their land. For example, they planted a hundred fruit and nut trees in the vineyards. All chemical sprays are replaced by homeopathic sprays made from our own herbs, and a herd of sheep takes care of tilling the soil. As part of the biodynamic approach, a number of works in the winery are timed according to the phases of the month - harvesting, bottling or perhaps the length of maceration. At the moment, they farm on 8 ha (in ecological conversion under Ecocert certification), of which about 6 ha are vines (Gamay and Chardonnay). On some plots you will find very old bushes with low yields that any conventional winery would have immediately uprooted, but Sylvie and Thierry decided to treat them with respect, which in return gives them grapes of exceptional quality. They basically do not manipulate the wine during processing, and no additives are added. Simply "Vins Vivants"!
