Near Lake Neusiedl in the Burgenland region, we find this family-run biodynamic winery run by Gerhard and Brigitte Pittnauer. Gerhard took over the winery at the age of 18 and gradually found out that the closest to him are the natural practices, which have a positive impact on the quality of the environment of his vineyards, as well as on the wines themselves. In its beginnings, it was inspired especially by France, where the biodynamic approach has a long tradition. That is why he also obtained the "respect-BIODYN" certification for his winery. Today, Weingut Pittnauer is a member of the local wine association "Pannonbile" and one of the most important representatives of the "natural" movement in Central Europe.
He farms 15 hectares of vineyards located on a limestone subsoil around the village of Gols (other well-known names from this area include Claus Preisinger or Judith Beck). Gerhard's passion is Saint Laurent - dark purple, strongly aromatic grapes, which have perfect conditions for ripening, but we can also find Pinot Noir, Zweigeltrebe or Chardonnay, which form the basis of his macerated white cuvées.
It does not use any chemical sprays for plant protection in the vineyards, nor does it use any other additives in the cellar. His wines naturally ferment with local yeast so that the character of the locality can be manifested as much as possible. In addition, most of its wines go to bottles without the addition of sulfur, so they retain their unbridled beauty and energy. We admire Gerhard's progressive approach, so we are very pleased to be able to offer his wines in our country as well.
