Vaskapu
Vaskapu or “Iron Gate'' is a small family owned winery of Géza Galán and his wife Ibolya. In 2016 they bought an old winery from the 19th century with several vineyards near Mohács, in the Pécs region in south of Hungary. The couple moved from Budapest after being engrossed in the growing trend of natural winemaking. Inspired by winemakers like István Bencze or Horst Hummel, they decided to move to the countryside in an old family tradition and start making natural wines. A certain uniqueness offered the southern region where only a small portion of vineyards are taken care of with low intervention. Géza is maintaining 2,5 ha of his vineyards biodynamically and grows old varieties like Kadarka, Kékfrankos, Cabernet Franc, Hárslevelü or Veltliner. He adheres to a strict “nothing in, nothing out” rule in wine making, therefore being a prime example of making honest wines mirroring the character of their region of the Danube basin. We are very happy to have met with Géza and Ibolya and to be able to offer you their wines.
